Students will develop an understanding of the philosophy of care in social care practice and evaluate key social care theories and models, eg Strengths based, solution focused and problem solving approaches; Systems theory; Ecological theory; Narrative therapy model; Crisis Intervention; Task Centred Practice; Wheel of Change and Motivational Interviewing; Restorative practice in social care work.

Students will examine generic issues in practice contexts e.g., working with children and adults at risk; Skills of working with individuals with substance abuse issues, and those who commit specific types of offences (eg Sexual offences) using evidence informed practice and apply the appropriate methods in professional social care practice.
