• To develop an awareness in students of their Culture and Heritage
• To introduce students to how tourists consume, engage with and interpret Irish Heritage
• To make students aware of the political and social influences that helped shape Ireland's heritage.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Identify and evaluate the key important role that vernacular tradition contributes to the tourism sector
LO3 Participate in active discussion within the group in a confident, motivated and responsible manner on matters concerning the development and interpretation of Ireland’s vernacular heritage.

Vernacular customs and traditions
Regional anthropology: The idiosyncrasies underlying cultural societies. Folklore, traditional music and storytelling: The underlying messages represented in the symbolism of political, moral, and religious belief.
Presentation
The care and presentation of cultural heritage. Utilizing the tourism potential of our folklore and tradition. Creating attractions around vernacular traditions

Reassessment Requirement
Exam Board
It is at the discretion of the Examination Board as to what the qualifying criteria are.
Reassessment Description
Marks for all projects/briefs are collated at the end of each semester. If a student fails to complete a project, re-assessment can take place if the student obtains the agreement of the tutor to submit completed work at the end of the semester. If part of a project involved group working then it is not possible to require students to submit such work and alternative assignments may have to be issued.
