Module Description: The aims of the subject are: (a) To train the learners in the practice of safe manual handling and appreciation of ergonomic assessment so as to provide the students with a QQI Certificate. (b) To develop the learners’ knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis for construction design and construction site activities. (c) To develop the learners’ knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation as relevant to the responsibility and roles of Construction design team members, Client and employees.
(d) To develop the learners’ knowledge of basic fire technology and to help students to understand human reactions to fire situations, fire evacuation procedures within organisations and fire containment and damage limitation within large organisations. (e) To develop the learners’ knowledge of security organisations and systems within large organisations.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment in relation to building design, construction, and maintenance.
LO2 Undertake Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment for a variety of design and construction activities so as comply with the competencies required by the QQI Manual Handling and Ergonomic Certificate.
LO3 Demonstrate through sketches and written descriptions a knowledge of basic fire services technology, fire legislation associated with fire management, fire containment and limitation and fire evacuation procedures.
LO4 Demonstrate through sketches and written descriptions a knowledge of security technologies, security barriers, security organisations and systems within large organisations.
LO5 demonstrate a knowledge of the requirements, duties, responsibilities and competencies associated with SAFE PASS and also for a variety of design and construction activities so as comply with the competencies required by the QQI Manual Handling and Ergonomic Certificate.
