Module Description: To equip learners with the knowledge, skill and competence to facilitate an understanding and appreciation of Irish cultural heritage, using a variety of research methodologies.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Define the role of cultural heritage as a tourism product in Ireland and in comparison to international products, identify international cultures and traditions which have been influenced by the Irish and analyse Ireland’s cultural heritage across different genres.
LO2 Discuss the work of the main bodies involved in the support, development, protection and promotion of Irish cultural heritage and explain the origin, antiquity, key literary genres and current status of the Irish language.
LO3 Summarise key aspects of the course of Irish history and summarise the major phases, styles and examples of Ireland’s architectural heritage.
LO4 Examine the development and location of arts, crafts and associated industries in Ireland as well as outline the evolution of Irish cuisine and beverages.

Landscape Analysis:
The composite value of natural and cultural landscape features. International examples, the role of the European Union, UNESCO, world heritage and the state.
Protection and Communication:
How cultural heritage is protected and communicated in Ireland. How we record and preserve this evolving resource. How we communicate the significance of our cultural heritage to a broad audience.
Cultural Origins:
The origins and evolution of Irish culture, architecture and foodstuffs.
Modern Cultural Development:
Literature, language and cultural evolution in a modern Ireland.
Cultural Consumption:
The benefits and threats posed by the tourism and event management industries to Ireland's cultural resource.
