Module Description: The module aims to develop the students’ written and oral expression in a professional context. This module aims to introduce LSP (language for specific purpose) in the students’ own fields of study. It aims to provide students with vocabulary/expression relevant to their chosen specialist area. The students will be introduced to more advanced grammar structures and written expression.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
1. General Language Skills:
Studying job advertisements; drafting and presenting a CV in French; writing a letter of application; summarising a variety of articles and texts; composing a short piece of writing on a current issue in France; business case studies and scenarios.
2. Oral and Listening Skills:
Presenting and defending orally a specialised topic; expressing opinion and judgement; talking about current affairs in France; understanding authentic speech; engaging in conversation; presenting a presentation (10 mins); role plays.
3. Grammar/Use of French:
Grammar topics studied should include: pluperfect; advanced expressions of time/logical reasoning; expressions of intent, opposition, restriction and concession.
4. Business and Commercial French:
Business vocabulary (from a range of departments and functions - personnel functions, production issues, marketing, purchasing, finance, insurance); writing up the minutes of a meeting; mock interviews (preparing and answering questions); idioms and expressions relating to business/work in French.
