Module Description: The aim of this module is to enable learners gain an international academic and cultural experience by spending a period in a partner academic environment: probably but not exclusively under the ERASMUS programme. The aim is to expose learners to a broader range of educational contexts and educational approaches related to their studies at IT Carlow, and to develop capacities to think and operate independently and autonomously.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate competency in the modules undertaken as laid down in the student learning agreement. The learning outcomes of this module include the aggregated learning outcomes of the modules taken while studying abroad.
LO2 Demonstrate the social and interpersonal skills to engage and effectively communicate in unfamiliar, new, uncertain and international contexts and to navigate language and cultural barriers.
LO3 Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and self-reliance in applying knowledge, skills and competency in addressing uncertain contexts, tasks and complex settings to achieve the learning outcomes of the academic programme of study abroad.

Indicative Content
Pre-departure Support
PORTFOLIO: module descriptors, logistics & confirmation, health & safety, personal security, student code of discipline, student code of conduct, communication & oversight protocol & final schedule, personal documentation & learning agreement check and guidelines.
Study Semester Abroad: Indicative Content
Comprises the content in the modules declared in the student learning agreement. The Study Semester Abroad experience will enable leaners engage an alternative educational learning environment; probably but not exclusively under the ERASMUS programme. The 30 ECTS accredited duration for the module will be awarded and validated by the partner college/institution as per the MOU and the learning agreement documentation. The curricular experience is scheduled to occur in Semester 2 of Stage 3 of the programme. However, it may take place at another time but must be completed before commencement of Semester 1 of Stage 4. The learner will be supported by the Programme Board placement co-ordinator/s and International Office. ITC International Office will support and monitor learners and maintain contact with host institutes/organisations/agencies throughout the Study Semester Abroad process. Contact between the IT Carlow academic programme and the learner will involve a minimum of one on-line progress interviews and a terminal interview.

Lecturer Supervised Learning Contact Learners will be required to attend classes (lectures, practicals and tutorials as appropriate) in the modules declared on their student learning agreement, in the host institution.
