Module Description: This module explores civic engagement and active socially engaged participation in the community. The primary region within which this takes place is Wexford. The module aims to foster greater appreciation amongst learners of the issues and needs of their local community.

This course aims to create awareness about the importance of civic participation in their locality, cross cultural engagement, personal and social responsibility, leadership skills, listening skills and critical reflection. It will also aim to foster confidence in using blogs and websites for dialogue, debate and reflection.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Create and follow a work plan to accomplish a goal with a team, experience the ups and downs of community based projects
LO2 Create a reflective online blog, make a short group video demonstrating their achievements with the community they worked with
LO3 Demonstrate through reflection and other activities an ability to recognise that there are multiple perspectives on issues

Socially Engaged Practice; Field work
• Introduction lectures on socially engaged practices in the creative industries; civic skills; workshops around concepts of community; participation in class discussions, research presentations. • Visiting talks by key stakeholders involved in organisations in the local community • Reflective writing skills and reflective activities. • Submission of Reflective Essay • Fieldwork. • Formative feedback on each students individual learning. • Creating a blog. • Submission of completed online reflective blog and group video of community team work.

Repeat examination
Reassessment of this module will consist of a repeat examination. It is possible that there will also be a requirement to be reassessed in a coursework element.
Reassessment Description
Marks for all components are collected at the end of each semester. If a student fails to complete a component re-assessment can take place if the student obtains the agreement of the tutor to submit completed work at the end of the semester. If a student fails to make a presentation then a written assignment should be set instead.
